If you are a fan of “Game of Thrones” series dreaming to meet the acting stars, it’s time to plan your trip to Spain. This is the country where HBO has selected further locations for Season 6 of the popular saga, Variety.com reports.
Alcazaba in Almeria
The production of Season 6 began in mid-to-late July in Northern Ireland and will move to Spain at the beginning of September.
According to Game of Thrones Wiki, in August the crew built a set in a hamlet in Almería, in order to prepare for filming in mid-to-late October.
On the City Wall, Girona
Before that, for two weeks the series will be shooting in the Old City of Girona in Catalonia, next to Barcelona.
The town with well-preserved medieval city walls, narrow stone streets of the Jewish Quarter and the Arab baths of XII century will turn into Braavos – the most powerful and most influential city of Essos, the largest continent of the “GOT” world.

The next location is Peñiscola in the province of Castellón, Valencian Community. The town is located on the Costa del Azahar, north of the Serra d’Irta along the Mediterranean coast. The main site of the town is a fortified castle built in XIII-XIV centuries by the Knights Templar on a headland, which dominates a seaside resort.

The Castillo de Zafra (XII century) in Campillo de Dueñas, central Spain, is built on a bed of rock. It confirmed to be the Tower of Joy.

Next location, the Castillo Santa Florentina, is a homely and habitable castle built in the XI century, just down the Mediterranean coast from Girona in Canet del Mar.

The first time the crew of Game of Thrones came to Spain was in 2014, shooting episodes of the 5th Season in Sevilla and Osuna, Andalucia.
According to Game of Thrones Wiki, in 2015 it’s for the first time since Croatia was introduced into the production for Season 2, that the country will not be used for any major filming. Dubrovnik, previously used to depict King’s Landing, will only go through a few days of filming for exterior shots of the fictional capital.
Furthermore, the show will not return to shoot in Split and other Croatian cities to recreate Braavos and Meereen, instead turning to new Spanish locations, such as Girona, which will depict both Braavos and Oldtown.
